WealthyRolloTreadway(BusterKeaton)suddenlydecidestoroosetohisneighboracrossthestreet,BetsyO’Brien(KathrynMcGuire),andsendshisservanttobookassageforahoneymoonseacruisetoHonolulu.WhenBetsyrejectshissuddenofferhowever,hedecidestogoonthetrianyway,boardingwithoutdelaythatnight.Becausetheiernumberisartiallycovered,heendsuonthewrongshi,theNavigator,whichBetsy’srichfather(FrederickVroom)hasjustsoldtoasmallcountryatwar.Agentsfortheothersmallnationintheconflictdecidetosettheshiadriftthatsamenight.WhenBetsy’sfatherchecksuontheshi,heiscaturedandtiedubythesaboteurs.Betsyhearshiscryforhelandboardstheshitolookforhim,justbeforeitiscutloose.TheNavigatordriftsoutintothePacificOcean.Thetwounwittingassengerseventuallyfindeachother.Atfirst,theyhavegreatdifficultylookingafterthemselves,butadatafterafewweeks.Atoneoint,theysightanavyshiandhoistabrightly-coloredflag,notrealizingitsignalsthattheshiisunderquarantine.Asaresult,theothervesselturnsaway.Finally,theshigroundsitselfnearaninhabitedtroicalislandandsringsaleak.WhileRollodonsadeeseadivingsuitandsubmergestoatchthehole,theblacknativescanoeoutandtakeBetsycative.WhenRolloemergesfromtheocean,thenativesarescaredoff,enablinghimtorescueBetsyandtakeherbacktotheshi.Thenativesreturnandtrytoboardtheshi.Afterafiercestruggle,RolloandBetsytrytoescaeinasmalldinghy.Itstartstosink,andthenativesswiftlyovertakethemintheircanoes.Justwhenallseemslost,anavysubmarinesurfacesrightunderneaththemandtheyaresaved.
